1. The best thing about the perimenopause is…..

Feeling as though a new powerful (and exciting) chapter of my life is opening up!

2. The hardest thing about the perimenopause is….

For me it was feeling as though there was something really wrong with me. I had so many odd symptoms that would come and go such as heart palpitations, breathlessness, poor eyesight and sleeplessness. I remember for quite a few months getting up, doing a workout and then getting back into bed straight away because I just felt so tired. I really beat myself up – accusing myself of being lazy or even more terrifying – depressed! I realised it was more than likely perimenopause, because my periods became erratic, having been regular all my life. I also knew from my own training as a menopause practitioner that perimenopause can begin years before the menopause and that symptoms will vary and come and go.

3. My lightbulb moment was….

Acceptance was a big thing for me. Instead of being angry at myself and feeling as though I ‘should’ be doing better, I asked myself how I could let go of the struggle and be a little more self-compassionate about what is fundamentally a completely natural stage in life. This simple realisation gave me the space to take my time and make some easy but powerful lifestyle modifications that gave me back my energy, positivity and sleep! I stopped drinking alcohol, gave up caffeine, began taking Ashwaghanda, did less cardio and more weights and finally, started taking cold showers!

4. My selfcare superhero is…..

Breathwork. It really helps me switch off and be in my body, rather than in my head.

5. I couldn’t live without…

Alcohol-free drinks (that are also low sugar of course!), because I have the fun of being in a pub, but without the disturbed sleep and high anxiety the next day!
