Catch up with our FREE event: Menopause, Your Gut and Vaginal Microbiome: What You Need to Know

This event has finished

The gut microbiome has gone from being something no one had really heard of until a few years ago to a topic everyone is talking about. But have you also heard about our vaginal microbiome? And do you know why it’s so important to our overall health and wellbeing to understand both?

Knowledge is empowering – if you’d like to learn more, you can catch up on our free webinar, with My Menopause Centre’s Dr Anna Greaves and Consultant Gynaecologist/Oncologist, Dr Jo Bailey, where we discussed:

  • Gut and vaginal microbiome 101:
    • What is a microbiome?
    • How do our gut and vaginal microbiomes impact our physical and mental wellbeing?
    • Why is it important to look at each differently?
  • How the menopause transition impacts our gut and vaginal microbiomes
  • Looking after our gut and vaginal microbiome
  • Tell-tale symptoms and ways to manage them

We had lots of great questions from our brilliant audience, so stay tuned to the end!

Here’s what some of our participants had to say about this webinar:

“A very informative event, delivered in language that was very understandable for the non-medical person. Chaired excellently, with great key clarifications and links to members’ questions. The time flew!”

“I was entirely unaware of the vaginal microbiome, so it was interesting to hear the emerging science and what it means to menopausal women. It was helpful to hear more about the gut microbiome too as the interactions with the vaginal microbiome are becoming clear. Very interesting and excellent presenters. Thank you for organising!”

We also promised to share the links posted in the chat, so here they are:

Dr Jo Bailey

Consultant Gynaecologist/Sub-Specialist Oncologist

MBChB, FRCS(Ed), MRCOG

Dr Jo is a consultant gynaecologist, looking after women with general gynaecological problems, and is also a subspecialist in gynaecological cancers and precancers.

She graduated from Glasgow University Medical School in 1993 and completed training in general Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Newcastle. After that Dr Jo moved to the South West for advanced training in the treatment of gynaecological cancer and never left, being appointed as a consultant in 2006. As part of treating women with cancer, she is particularly interested in ensuring that women live well with minimal side effects from their cancer diagnosis and treatment. This led to her being part of an NHS menopause clinic advising women with complex menopause concerns, including a specialist oncology menopause clinic.

As a gynaecologist she often sees women with difficult to control vaginal symptoms and has been fascinated by the impact of the microbiome on vaginal health and the opportunities offered by probiotics for treatment.

Dr Anna Greaves

Dr Anna Greaves

Registered Menopause Specialist and GP

MBChB, BMedSc (Hons), MRCGP, MRCP, DRCOG,DFSRH

Dr Anna is a registered menopause specialist and NHS GP. She graduated from the University of Birmingham in 2008 and is a diplomat of the Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Health and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.

She has been a GP for over 10 years and has always had an interest in women’s health. While working as a GP she saw that there was an unmet need to support women struggling with the perimenopause and menopause. Seeing the vast range of physical impacts and hearing the stories of these women inspired her to undertake the Advanced Menopause Training with the British Menopause Society. As well as her work with My Menopause Centre, she also works in an NHS menopause clinic.
