Get a Handle on Your Hormones: Demystifying the female and male menopause

This event has finished

The buzz around the menopause and its impact on women has made us all aware of the vital role that hormones play in a woman’s body, in particular the fluctuating and ultimately declining levels of oestrogen and the impact they have as a woman goes through the menopause. But even though it’s something 50% of the population experience, it’s still a taboo subject and many people grapple with what the menopause is and what can be done to help.

Explore

The conversation around the menopause has also shone a light on male hormonal health – in particular the role of testosterone and how falling levels affect men as they age.

Did you know that …

  • Most women will start the menopause transition in their mid-to-late-40s, and an estimated 8 in 10 will experience some physical and/or mood/cognition symptoms of the menopause. These can last between 4-8 years and, if left untreated, can take a toll on a woman’s relationships, sex life and performance at work
  • 4 in 10 men will experience low testosterone, and for some this can result in a range of physical and/or mood and cognition symptoms.

Knowledge is power: the more we understand about our hormones, the better we’re able to manage our physical and mental health and overall quality of life.

In this interactive and informative workshop, our specialist doctors will …

  • Reveal how significantly hormonal changes can affect us in life and at work and the importance of kickstarting this conversation
  • Demystify the menopause by exploring the transition stages and symptoms
  • Bust the myths around the ‘male-menopause’ and explain testosterone-deficiency syndrome and symptoms
  • Share the latest thinking on how to prepare for and manage female and male hormonal health symptoms

This will be followed by a Q&A session with the doctors.
