Here to help you take control of your menopause

Our menopause consultations are designed to provide you with the help and support you need to take control of your menopause and thrive. Over a video or phone consultation, we’ll listen to your story and help you understand your symptoms and the solutions available. Our aim is to provide you with evidence-based information and advice and support you in making choices that work best for you.

We’ll then work with you to create a personalised holistic menopause treatment plan that will help you on your journey to feeling yourself again. We believe in an evidence-based approach to menopause treatment, which is always based on your individual needs and symptoms.

A consultation is the first step towards banishing hot flushes, relieving anxiety, or finding ways to take control of the symptoms you are experiencing.

Who we treat

We treat women over the age of 30 who are going through the menopause transition (perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause). Our doctors and nurses can help with:

  • Symptoms of the perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause
  • Menopause as a result of surgery or cancer treatment
  • Premature menopause (premature ovarian insufficiency – POI)
  • Vaginal symptoms related to the menopause
  • Menopause sexual dysfunction

Please speak to your GP or gynaecologist before you come to us if:

  • Your periods have become heavier or longer and/or if you’re having spotting in between your periods or bleeding after sex.
  • You start bleeding after having had no bleeding for over a year.
  • You’re over the age of 55 and still experience bleeding, but aren’t taking hormones or HRT.

My Menopause Centre is here to help women through menopause. We don’t deal with medical emergencies. If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact your primary care provider or call 999 if appropriate.

What to expect from a consultation

All of our consultations take place by secure video call or telephone. Every consultation takes place with a doctor or nurse experienced in the management of the menopause. Read more about our team.

We will listen to your story and work with you to determine the best evidence-based approach to help you take control of your menopause.

A holistic menopause treatment plan will be created by the doctor or nurse specifically for you. We’ll discuss everything from lifestyle changes and the risks and benefits of HRT, to general health advice which will help manage long-term risks of osteoporosis and heart disease.

Here’s a list of FAQs about our treatments and consultations.

Tips to make the most of your consultation

To make sure we make the best use of our time together, please follow the instructions on your booking email to provide us with the below information. Don’t worry if you don’t have it all to hand!

  • Your blood pressure – you can check this with a calibrated home monitor, or visit your local pharmacy or GP practice. You will need to give a recent blood pressure reading before HRT can be prescribed
  • Your height and weight – so we can calculate your Body Mass Index (BMI)
  • A list of any HRT treatments you’ve already tried
  • Your medical history*
  • A brief family history of medical problems – particularly breast and ovarian cancer, heart disease, stroke, blood clots, and osteoporosis
  • A full list of medication you are currently taking
  • Your ID

*If you have a complicated medical history (for example previous blood clots, heart disease, autoimmune disease) or have had treatment for cancer, it’s sometimes necessary to see letters outlining the exact details of your medical issues. It’s helpful to have any information at hand. It may be that we need to write to your GP or consultant asking for this information (with your permission) to help us make the best-informed decision about treatment.

How long will your consultation last?

All our initial consultations take around 45 minutes. Follow-up consultations will take 25 minutes.

If you decide to take testosterone, regular blood monitoring is essential.

  • Initial consultation – 45 minutes
  • Follow-up consultation – 25 minutes

We help lots of women every day, so we have to stick to appointment timings. But don’t worry, if you feel you would like more time, you’re welcome to book a 45-minute follow-up appointment. If it’s 2 years or more since you’ve been seen by one of the doctors or nurses in our clinic, you’ll need to book a 45-minute consultation so that our doctors and nurses have enough time to assess any changes in your health or circumstances.

Here’s more information about our prices.

What if you need to arrange blood tests?

Some of our patients require blood tests, and we use Medichecks to carry them out. These can be taken at Medichecks locations nationally, or a nurse can come to your home. If you require a blood test, then this will be agreed upon with you during your consultation. A member of our team will contact you after this to arrange the blood test and take payment.

Please see the price lists for more details.

You can find out more about blood testing on our FAQ page.

How will your prescriptions work?

If medication is recommended during your appointment, we use a private pharmacy to fulfil it. Designed to be a flexible pharmacy that works around people, it is a service that delivers straight to your door.

Once we have emailed across your prescription details, our private pharmacy partner will contact you directly to arrange payment and delivery of your medication.

You can find out more about prescriptions on our FAQ page.

Will your consultation be confidential?

Your consultation and information are completely confidential and will only ever be shared between you and the My Menopause Centre doctors and nurses. We will ask to share a copy of the clinic letter and treatment plan discussed during your consultation with your GP, but you have the final say.

We use a secure, cloud-based encrypted system to store your details and will ask permission to use anonymised data for audit and research purposes.

Why we need your ID

Because we are offering medical advice, it is important we know who you are. Your doctor or nurse will check your photo ID at the beginning of the consultation. Any of the following is accepted:

  • Passport
  • Driving licence/Provisional driving licence
  • UK Disabled Driver card
  • Military ID card
  • Police Warrant card

This information helps us confirm your identity and your appointment cannot take place before we receive this proof.

What to expect after your appointment

You will receive an email from your menopause doctor or nurse within five working days providing you with your personalised menopause treatment plan. This will summarise what was said and agreed during the consultation, including prescribed medication. We will also send a copy of this to your GP (unless you have told us not to).

If you are prescribed Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT), we ask you to book a 25-minute follow-up consultation in three months’ time (you can always come back sooner if you like).

If testosterone therapy was discussed, a blood test is usually needed before we prescribe it to make sure it’s appropriate for you. Your doctor or nurse will discuss testosterone therapy and give you information during your consultation. A blood test will then be arranged (if you haven’t already had one) to find out your baseline testosterone level. If your baseline testosterone level is low, in most cases your doctor or nurse will email the result to you and arrange the prescription. In some circumstances, you may be asked to book another appointment to discuss the results.

If you are prescribed testosterone, we ask you to book a 25-minute follow-up consultation after 2-3 months to establish if it’s working, check for any side effects, and determine if the treatment is continued. If testosterone treatment is continued, a further blood test is required to ensure that your testosterone level does not exceed that which is normal for women. Testosterone levels are rechecked every 6-12 months after this.

If you choose to take testosterone, therefore, it means committing to blood monitoring and follow-up appointments to keep an eye on the levels in your body.
